Random Rant: How to Change

Albert Einstein once defined insanity as "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." This rings true in any organization. If you never change the inputs or the system which controls the inputs, you can never change the outputs.

There are 3 things necessary for Change.

1) Recognize the current position.  Without an honest assessment of where an organization/individual is, change can't happen. This is the humiliating part. When recognition of how far behind and out of of the loop an organization or idea is, progress can be made. The Bible says that it is very easy to deceive ourselves Jer. 17:9.

2) Count the cost. Without an honest assessment of how long the journey is, there cannot truly be change. This forces honest expectations and helps manage burnout. The Bible says  to count the cost before any undertaking. Luke 14:28 - 30

3) Define victory. This is the hardest part.  Without a quantifiable way of defining and then assessing victory there is NO victory. Without a definition for victory one man's victory is another man's failure. Whether there is victory or failure there is always learning and progress. The Bible says " Where there is no vision, the people perish." Prov. 29:18

Many of us have been part of organizations that fail to change, when they want to change. Frustration and confusion are the natural outcomes. People lose heart and confidence in leadership and complacency ensues.
